Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent tumors in the United States, responsible for almost half of all tumors. Two skin cancer forms, nonmelanoma and melanoma are present.
More than 1 million cases of nonmelanoma cancer can be identified in physicians in the United States, typically in basal or squamous patient cells. Exposure to the sun induces the bulk of nonmelanoma skin cancer — the nose, head, back, lips and hands. They can develop rapidly or gradually, but never spread to other areas of the body.
The second form of melanoma has become increasingly severe in many parts of the body. While it just accounts for a tiny amount of skin disease, it affects most individuals with skin cancer. Melanoma is a disease that occurs with the coloring of the skin of pigment cells (melanin) that helps remove the sun’s damaging rays from deeper layers of the skin. Melanoma, which has been diagnosed early, is almost all curable.
Photodynamic care The photodynamic therapy (pDT) is a solution to nonmelanoma and melanoma skin cancers. PDT is an approved skin cancer treatment Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which combines a light source with a light-activated photo-sensitive agent to kill cells. It is also called photoradiation or photochemotherapy which is helpful when many tumors are found on the skin or scalp. It is sometimes known as photorradiation.
The PDT functions as the photosensitizing factor, such as fluorouracil, acts more effectively in cancer cells than in regular cells. Exposure to light allows oxygen to lead to the production of chemicals that can destroy a cell with skin cancer. Nevertheless, only small depth of tissue can absorb licensed light sources, and doctors use PDT primarily to treat areas on or just under the surface. It is less successful in the treatment of large tumors since the light can not penetrate through the tumors deeply. Because the medication is targeted, the doctors will not use PDT in the diagnosis of metastatic skin cancer.
